The actual sound of the famous "Rebel Yell" was thought to be lost
to history, but a recording of a Confederate Veteran was recently
discovered. At the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg,
a line of tottering old Confederate Veterans approached the stone
wall where the Union veterans waited. One old veteran gave a
Rebel Yell as he approached, causing a noticeable start among the
old Union Veterans.
Perhaps they remembered what one Union soldier described as
"that peculiar corkscrew sensation" that traveled up ones spine
when facing a unit of screaming Confederates.
The old veteran is then heard to say, "That's the Rebel Yell."
While it's clear that this is a sound coming from one 90+ year old
throat, one can only imagine the demonic sounds that a charging
unit of testosterone-enhanced teenagers and 20 year olds would
have made in battle. - From the Texas State SCV
